Trip Prep

We will hopefully be receiving our travel dates today. In the meantime, I began making the travel prep "to do" list. Holy guacamole -- there's a LOT to do!

TO BUY/FIND

  • 4-5 outfits and 2 pair pjs for Tinsaye
  • Jacket for Tinsaye
  • Underwear/socks for Tinsaye
  • Shoes for Tinsaye
  • Toothbrush for Tinsaye
  • Bike/scooter for Tinsaye? (for home, of course!)
  • Some activity books/books/games for Tinsaye for the plane
  • Go to Build-a-Bear with the kids to make a bear for Tinsaye for the trip/plane (a family tradition – the kids all get to go to Build-a-Bear on their birthday, so we thought it would be fun for them to go and make one for Tinsaye for when he enters our family!)
  • Jackets for me and Mike
  • Pants for Mike
  • Buy new disposable camera or two for Tinsaye for the trip
  • Buy little gifts for the kids staying home
  • Calling cards for us and Nanny/Papaw
  • Travel TP
  • Lice treatment (yummy!!)
  • Power Converter/adapters
  • Waist band-Belt money/passport holder thingy (or borrow)

TO DO

  • Book tickets for flights and hotel room
  • Return un-needed shoes to Zappos
  • Return clothes that didn’t fit to Coldwater Creek
  • Pick up cash and traveler’s checks
  • Get cash for kids/Nanny & Papaw
  • Figure out where the animals will stay
  • Set up a daily activity/friends schedule for the kids
  • Hire driver for Addis
  • Buy suitcases for kids, and maybe more for us?
  • Make sure we have adequate SD cards for cameras
  • Hair cuts for Drew and Mike
  • Organize kids’ rooms/closets
  • Make sure bills are paid
  • Get all kids to dentist
  • Copy tickets and passports
  • Call the Dr’s office and ask about emergency care while we are out of the country? Power of attorney forms?
  • Call credit card companies to alert them of our travel
  • Get travel insurance
  • Ask neighbor to get our mail and check on cats
  • Arrange/Confirm for airport pick-up in Addis
  • Ask pediatrician/primary physician about prescription meds?

TO DO JUST BEFORE WE LEAVE

  • Charge phones, camera batteries, iPods, gameboys
  • Get groceries
  • Stop Yahoo groups mail
  • Take animals to where they are staying
  • Clean whole house
  • Change everyone’s bedding

TO PACK

  • PASSPORTS
  • Copies of passports and tickets
  • TICKETS
  • $400 – cash for Visa
  • $20x2 for Ethiopian visas
  • Converter/adapters (must find them first!)
  • Portable kettle
  • Snacks and easy foods (oatmeal, poptarts, cheese/crackers, tea bags, instant coffee, etc.)
  • Tinsaye’s clothes/jammies/underwear/socks/shoes/jacket
  • Our clothes/jammies/underwear/socks/shoes/jacket
  • Toiletries
  • Meds
  • Tinsaye’s travel bag with books, clothes, toys
  • Computer and cord?
  • Camera
  • Chargers for cameras, phones, iPods
  • Laundry detergent
  • Bath soap
  • Dish soap
  • Power strip
  • Take $20x2 cash (1996 or newer, clean, no tears/folds) for Ethiopian visas in airport upon arrival

We got our converters/adaptors at Radio shack. Good luck with everything else. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Julie-the list looks so familiar!
I even had a grocery list of stuff to stock up on BEFORE we went to China to adopt our son last summer!
It's amazing how it all gets done.
It's as though God multiplies your time as a gift.
He is so good to us!
