I was reminded the other day that I have not been posting on my blog in AGES ... (thanks, Paula, I will "play," but I thought I'd quick post this first!). Suffice it to say, it's been a CRAZY couple of months. And yes, it's been TWO MONTHS tomorrow since we arrived home with the 7th Armstrong.
Tinsaye, now known (and hereafter referred to) as Isaiah, has settled into a fairly regular daily pattern now and our lives, though they look quite a bit different now, have become better structured and more comfortable.
Tonight, I tried my hand at making Ethiopian Doro Wot. This is a very spicy chicken stew and it's essentially considered the "national meal" of Ethiopia. We ate it with injera, which is a spongy-like tangy flatbread that is broken off in pieces and used to pick up the chicken, eaten with fingers. It is traditionally served with hard boiled eggs (which are those round potato-looking things).
If I do say so myself, my Doro Wot was VERY yummy and Isaiah was SOOOOO thrilled to have it. He gave me the biggest hug and kiss ever and said: "Thank you, Mom! Thank you, Mom!!!"
Here are a couple of pics:

That's awesome! I tried making Doro Wot and injera recently. It was pretty good, but would like to try a different recipe. Where did you get yours?
Also, I'm so glad to hear that Isaiah is settling into his family!
Wow! You're one amazing cook - that looked fantabulous.
Seeing him say "Thank you Mom" brought tears to my eyes. How wonderful. =)
Is he settling in ok? I think about you a lot and hope his heart is hurting less and becoming bonded with yours more.
I didn't know where else to reply. I found your site via Sonlight. I wanted to comment on your "why adopt". It spoke to my heart as we've just begun this process ourselves. We just sent in the app. and have begun gathering documents. But your words of "God choosing you to raise this child" is so how we feel. There is something big going on that God's making it very clear that we're to walk this road. It's humbling, it's not of us, it's not about us; it's about His amazing plan. We're humbled He's chosen us to be a part of it. I'd like to copy out your explanation as it so put into words how I'm feeling. Thank you! God bless your transition and bonding!
So glad to see you back, Julie! I've been praying for you during this transition time.
Wow! on your cooking... I am so impressed. :)
Thank you so much for another update. You've been on my heart a lot and I had been checking every single day to see if you had anything new to share. It sounds like things are starting to settle and are going smoother than they were when you last posted. Blessings to you!
Welcome back Julie! I have been worried about you.
I also made doro wat and homemade injera when W. was with us.
I think I liked it more than she did. She didn't seem very impressed, but I liked it. I didn't make it as spicy as it called for though...light on the berbere!
Isaiah looks very handsome.
I hope things are getting easier.
blessings,
holly
Julie,
I was so glad to see your recent post. You have been in my thoughts and prayers as I have come to realize those first few months can bring about much change.
You go girl with your Doro Wot, that looks amazing. I actually copied the recipe that you posted on the AAI website. I even ordered Berbere (didn't know where to buy it, so I ordered it from zamouri spices online...per some recommendations.)
I pray that even during the hard days you will rest in the truth and stand steadfast in His Word.
Richest Blessings!
Look how handsome he is!
The meal looks yummy!! Hope to see you soon!
Wondering how you're doing these days. Don't forget to pop in and let us know what's happening. =)
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you and your family have a wonderful day.
Hi Julie,
I hope all is well. I am writing to let you know that we opened our heart to adoption again and just got back with our little boy. We, however, move in 3 weeks to CA. I hope all is well with you. I miss reading how things are going with you and you have been in my thoughts. Just wanted to say I am sorry we were not able to meet in person. Have a great Sat.
