Introducing ... Abdulaziz

Abdulaziz Lakew is an 8 year old little boy who lives in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He was born in 1997 and he weighs 46 pounds. He wants to be a pilot when he grows up. He likes to draw and his favorite color is yellow. Rice with bread is his favorite food. During the summer vacation, he was one of the active participants in Art, Music and Drama trainings provided by an organization called Music Mayday Ethiopia. He has also taken Basic Computer skill lessons. He likes to play and he is a smiling and happy boy.

Except for one thing.

Abdulaziz is an HIV-positive orphan. If it was not for organizations like AHOPE Ethiopia, Abdulaziz would most certainly die while occupying one of the lowest rungs of society. Thankfully, Abdulaziz has started taking Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) during the last several months and he is showing good progress and responding well to the medication. He also had an upper respiratory tract and a skin infection (both of which could be fatal if his HIV was already progressed to full-blown AIDS). Abdulaziz lives at the AHOPE Ethiopia orphanage and he is the little boy that our family is sponsoring for at least six months. Our contribution will be used to provide food, care and most importantly, medicine.

I wish I could post his picture, but I don't know if I'm allowed to. Seeing his face makes this disease so real. Giving $30 a month seems like a pittance compared to the burden he must carry. But what more can we do?
