An Empty Bed

There's an empty bed here waiting

for a special little boy.

The shelves nearby are lined with books,

with trains and blocks and toys.

We've carefully arranged the room

that with your brother you will share.

He asks for you each night

as he prays for you with care.

There's an empty bed here waiting

it will all be strange and new.

Will you understand

that we did it just for you?

I know that it will take some time

for you to feel this place is home.

Even then, I hope you'll know

you will never be alone.

There's an empty bed here waiting

to be warmed by just one child.

Though you're yet unknown to us

Lord God is planning all the while.

You started as just a promise from Him

now He's completing what He said:

There's just one little boy -- it's you --

to fill this empty bed.
