Dossier Progress - Tuesday

We made good progress again today. Here's what we accomplished:

  • I took passport sized pictures of Mike and myself (well, my Dad took one of me!) and I sized them, printed them and cut them. We need 8 copies of each (they get stapled to all our paperwork here and in Ethiopia).
  • I picked up our notarized medical clearance letters
  • I picked up my notarized employment letter from the realtor I work for.
  • Mike went downtown to get our police clearance letters, only to find out that THERE IS NO NOTARY IN OUR COUNTY GOVERNMENT OFFICE!!!!! (Oy vey ... government...) So, we placed a panic call to Janelle at AAI (the resident document specialist) and she said that the clearance we received for our homestudy should be sufficient since it has a raised government seal. The date is a little questionable, however, since it is from June. *IF* our dossier goes to Ethiopia by the end of the year, it should be fine (which is only ... 27 days away, well, almost 26). THAT would be moving fast. If it goes in 2008, we should have updated ones. Hmmm ... not sure what we're going to do about that.
  • Mike also got his notarized employment letter from his boss.

Here's what we have left to do:

  • Receive our notarized letters of recommendation from the friends we asked to do those. (hopefully by tomorrow?)
  • Go to the Credit Union to have our signatures on various documents notarized (tomorrow)
  • After the visit to the Credit Union, I need to drive downtown and hand deliver the notarized Power of Attorney form (for the attorney who will represent us in Ethiopian court) for it to be authenticated. I will leave that with a prepaid priority mail envelope addressed to AAI for them to send it directly to AAI.
  • OVERNIGHT OUR DOSSIER TO AAI!!!!!!!!!
I was a little stressed during the whole police clearance letter fiasco, but it seems to be resolved already with little effort. Worst case scenario (oh ... famous last words ... I shouldn't have even typed it!!), I will go by the courthouse again tomorrow when I'm downtown delivering the POA to the Secretary of State's office. Will update again tomorrow!
