My Mom asked me this morning if the title of our blog was a typo. "Shouldn't it be 'These Are THE Days," she asked? I kind of chuckled to myself and emailed her back and explained that the title of our blog comes from the song that Mike and I danced to at our wedding: These Are Days by 10,000 Maniacs (funny: in addition to the song being meaningful, the name of the group also seems kind of prophetic of our family, huh?). I remember people giving me a raised eyebrow when we were planning our wedding and we chose this song for our first dance. If you know it, you've probably already remembered that it's not a slow song. It's not even really a sappy love song. But, we love the lyrics and they really expressed how we felt then (and still do!) and what we desired for our life together: to live in the moment, enjoying each other and the journey we would walk together, enjoying these days and knowing how blessed we are to be together. If you read the lyrics in the context of our adoption, it takes on even more meaning:
These Are Days
Artist: 10,000 Maniacs
copyright, 1992
These are days you'll remember.
Never before and never since, I promise, will the whole world be warm as this.
And as you feel it, you'll know its true that you are blessed and lucky.
Its true that you are touched by something that will grow and bloom in you.
These are days you'll remember.
When may is rushing over you with desire to be part of the miracles you see in every hour.
You'll know its true that you are blessed and lucky.
Its true that you are touched by something that will grow and bloom in you.
These are days.
These are the days you might fill with laughter until you break.
These days you might feel a shaft of light make its way across your face.
And when you do you'll know how it was meant to be.
See the signs and know their meaning.
Its true, you'll know how it was meant to be.
Hear the signs and know they're speaking to you, to you.

Julie, when I first read the title of your blog, I immediately heard this (great!) song in my head. Good choice, and thanks for explaining it! Oh, and our recessional was Kool and the Gang, so I can't make any comments on crazy wedding songs. :)
Love, Karen

I always thought that was a perfect description of your relationship. And I can't comment, anyway, considering we had the Rocky them as our recessional :) This would be a funny website/poll to start to see what "different" songs people had in their weddings.
anyway, love you.
